BODY SHAPE GUIDE

Find Your Fit, Love Your From

Because real bodies deserve real clothes.

At Aakaar, we believe fashion should celebrate you, not the industry’s idea of you.
Our dresses are handcrafted to suit real women with real curves, lines, and stories, not mannequins.
In a world full of polyester fits and “free size” disappointments, we create clothes shaped
around the human body in all its beautiful diversity.

That’s why we start where most brands don’t: with your body shape.

Why Body Shape Matters

Two women can have the same measurements and still look completely different in the same dress. That’s because shape matters more than size. Whether you’re returning to work after maternity, dressing your changing body through your 40s, or just want to feel confident every day — the right silhouette makes all the difference.

We creatively design for real Indian bodies: for women who move, breathe, bloat, and fluctuate. And we do it with natural, breathable fabrics that suit our climate and lifestyles — not just trends.

How to Identify Your Body Shape

Stand in front of the mirror in fitted clothes, or use a soft measuring tape if you're unsure.
This section is for you no calculators, no apps, no pressure.

Hourglass

Mirror cues:
Your bust and hips are roughly equal in width.
Your waist is clearly defined and narrower than both.
Dresses often fit well at the waist but feel tight at bust/hip if not stretchable.

Tape clues (approx):
Bust ≈ Hips
Waist is visibly smaller about 70%–75% the size of bust or hips.

Aakaar tip:

Go for dresses that highlight your natural waist like our empire-waist and wrap styles.

Pear

Mirror cues:
Your hips are wider than your bust and shoulders.
Weight tends to collect around the lower body.
Your upper body may look smaller in proportion.

Tape clues (approx):

Hips > Bust by a noticeable difference
Waist is defined, but more aligned to bust than hips

Aakaar tip:

Flared sleeves and structured shoulders help balance proportions while waist detailing flatters your curve.

Apple

Mirror cues:
You carry most weight around your waist and upper midsection.
Your bust is full, waist is undefined, and legs may be slimmer.
You feel like tops “cling” but legs fit fine.

Tape clues (approx):

Waist is almost equal to or broader than bust/hips
Bust ≥ Hips, but waist not noticeably smaller

Aakaar tip:

Opt for silhouettes that skirt the waist, like our V-neck poplin styles they glide over the midsection and create soft structure.

Rectangle

Mirror cues:
Your bust, waist, and hips are similar in width.
Your body is straight and balanced, but you may want to create more curve.
Dresses often feel shapeless unless there’s waist shaping.

Tape clues (approx):

Waist ≈ Bust ≈ Hips
Waist is not very defined, falls in the same line as bust/hips

Aakaar tip:
Look for designs with gathers, belts, or seams that create shape where you want it especially at the waist.

Inverted Triangle

Mirror cues:
Your shoulders or bust are broader than your hips.
You may feel that pants always fit but tops feel tight.
Arms may appear more muscular or fuller than legs.

Tape clues (approx):

Bust/Shoulders > Hips
Waist may or may not be defined, but hips appear narrower in comparison

Aakaar tip:

Flowy skirts, A-line shapes, and gathers at the lower half balance your look beautifully.

A Gentle Reminder

This guide is here to help you understand your body, not restrict it.

You may find yourself between two shape, and that’s completely okay. Bodies are fluid, especially as we go through work stress,
motherhood, hormonal changes, and age. We’ve kept all of that in mind while designing each piece.

Because confidence doesn't come from wearing what's trending, it comes from wearing what fits your life.
